How to Buy Tickets for Tokyo Game Show 2026

Tickets go on sale around 2 months before the event; expect them around July 2026. You can purchase through the official Tokyo Game Show website or authorized third-party vendors.

Ticket Types and What You Should Get

Based on previous years, here's what to expect:

Standard Day Ticket (¥2,200 per day): Entry ticket for the event. But you'll be competing with everyone else for game demos. If you want priority entry, buy the Fast Ticket.

Fast Ticket (Higher Price, Worth Every Yen): It includes priority entry and some free merchandise. Best for skipping the lines and securing a chance to try major game demos.

Children (elementary school age and under): Free entry!

Important Note: All information is based on previous years and is for reference only.

How to Get to Makuhari Messe From Tokyo

Makuhari Messe, home of the Tokyo Game Show, is about a 30-minute ride from Tokyo Station, or 1–1.5 hours depending on where you're staying.

For public transport, take the JR Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station directly to Kaihin-Makuhari Station in around 30 minutes. From there, it's a 5-minute walk to the venue.

Avoid transferring at Nishi-Funabashi Station during TGS—it gets overcrowded. If you're staying in places like Shinjuku or Akihabara, it's easier to transfer at Tokyo Station instead.

Tips for a Smooth Journey:

  • Download offline maps before you go—mobile networks often crash inside the venue.
  • Plan your return trip in advance; trains after closing time can be packed.

Where to Stay for Tokyo Game Show 2026

You've got two main options: stay near the venue in Chiba or base yourself in Tokyo. Here's how to decide:

Stay in Chiba (Best for Hardcore Gamers)

If you're all about getting to the front of the line for your favorite booths, stay near Makuhari Messe. Lines for major titles start forming as early as 5:00–5:30 AM, and being just a 5-minute walk away can make all the difference.

Recommended areas:

  • Kaihin-Makuhari: Just a short walk to the venue—perfect if you're serious about those demos.
  • Makuhari: One station away, with more hotel options.
  • Chiba City: More budget-friendly, 15–20 minutes by train.

Our Recommendations: If your trip is only for the game show, Chiba is perfect. It isn't a tourist hotspot. Outside of TGS, there's not much to do in the evenings. If not, try to stay in Tokyo.

Stay in Tokyo (Best for Combining TGS with Sightseeing)

If you're visiting Japan for more than just the game show, staying in Tokyo gives you way more to do in the evenings. After a full day at TGS, you can explore Tokyo's incredible food scene, nightlife, and attractions.

Recommended areas:

  • Tokyo Station area: Direct JR Keiyo Line access—no transfers needed. Expect higher hotel prices and fewer evening activities.
  • Akihabara: Easy train connections and you're right in the heart of gaming/anime culture
  • Shibuya: More nightlife options, requires one transfer. Great for combining Tokyo's energy with easy access to the game show.

If you want to enjoy both Tokyo and the game show, Shibuya is your best choice.

Booking Tips: Hotels near Makuhari Messe fill up fast once TGS dates are announced. Book as early as possible; it's great when tickets go on sale in July.

Tips for Visiting the Tokyo Game Show Smoothly

  • Arrive early (before 7 am) if you want to plan your game demos. Popular booths like Capcom, Atlus, and Square Enix may have 2–3 hour waits if you arrive later. Some people start lining up as early as 5:00–5:30 am.
  • Head straight to your top-priority booth: Once the doors open, head straight to your top-priority booth to grab a "seiriken"—a time slot ticket for game demos.
  • Eat early (before 11:30) or late (after 14:30) to avoid long lines.
  • Visit before the last day (Sep. 21) to avoid missing out on exclusive items, which tend to sell out
  • Mobile networks can crash, so take a screenshot of your schedule and must-see booths.

What to Bring and What Not to Bring:

  • Comfortable shoes: Expect to walk 20,000+ steps.
  • Portable charger
  • Small amount of cash: Some vendors don't accept cards
  • Small portable fan: It can get hot, especially in crowded areas
  • Umbrella (if rain is forecast): You'll be waiting outside before entry
  • Food and drinks: Food and drinks are allowed; Just don't eat in the main exhibition halls
  • Don't bring pocket Wi-Fi devices: they're not allowed inside. Arrange specific meeting points with friends instead, as messaging apps may not work.
