Where is Hiroshima in Japan?
Hiroshima Prefecture is located in western Japan on the main island of Honshu, between the Kansai and Kyushu regions.
Its capital, Hiroshima City, is about 1.5 hours from Osaka by Shinkansen. Thanks to its convenient location, Hiroshima is often included as a stop on western Japan itineraries.

Hiroshima City’s Attractions Map
Peace Memorial Park: Peace Memorial Park is the best place to understand the city's history and spirit of peace.
- Atomic Bomb Dome: It is the only preserved structure in the world that survived a nuclear explosion.
- Peace Memorial Museum: The museum displays artifacts, photographs, and personal belongings left behind after the atomic bombing.
The park is large. Allow at least 3–4 hours to walk through.
Shukkeien Garden: A traditional Japanese garden where you can slow down and enjoy the seasonal scenery.Plan about 45–60 minutes for a visit at a comfortable pace.
Hondori Shopping Street and Aioi Street: The most popular areas to enjoy Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
Miyajima Island Attractions Map
Beyond the city, the most popular nearby escape is Miyajima Island. It is best known for its iconic “floating” torii gate，lovely deer and sea views.
It is relatively small, and most main attractions are within walking distance of the ferry terminal.
Itsukushima Shrine: Famous for its red torii gate rising from the sea, offering a stunning view from both land and water.
Miyajima Oyster Farm Visit: You can take a boat ride to view Itsukushima Shrine from the sea and enjoy a freshly prepared oyster tasting set on site (available from mid-October to mid-April).
Mount Misen: Take the ropeway to the summit and enjoy panoramic views stretching across dozens of islands and the mainland coastline.
Daisho-in Temple: Known for its serene Buddhist atmosphere and the legendary eternal flame said to have burned for over a thousand years.
Tip: We recommend walking to Daisho-in Temple first and then taking the ropeway up the mountain. This route is efficient and comfortable, and takes about 2 hours including sightseeing.

Transportation Map: How to Get to Hiroshima
Hiroshima is conveniently situated near Osaka and Kyoto, with the Shinkansen being the easiest way to get there.
The journey typically takes about 1.5 hours from Osaka to Hiroshima and around 1.5 to 2 hours from Kyoto.
Getting Around Hiroshima City
Hiroshima’s tram system is the easiest way to get around the city.
For most visitors, Route 2 and Route 6 are the only lines you need, connecting Hiroshima Station with major attractions such as Peace Memorial Park, Shukkeien Garden, and Miyajima.
Hiroshima Station → Peace Memorial Park: Take Tram Route 2 or 6 and get off at Genbaku Dome-mae Station. The ride takes about 20 minutes.
Hiroshima Station → Miyajima: Take the JR train to Miyajimaguchi (about 25 minutes), then transfer to a ferry to Miyajima Island (about 10 minutes).
Peace Memorial Park → Miyajima: Take the direct high-speed ferry from Motoyasu Pier, next to the park, to Miyajima Pier. The journey takes about 45 minutes, and Itsukushima Shrine is just a short walk from the pier.
